Welcome to the SCCS website
The Sunshine Coast Choral Society is an incorporated Community Group whose Mission Statement is:

  •   To perform with artistic integrity both the mixed part classic works of the choral repertoire and new
       or lesser known pieces of merit;

  •  To provide affordable and accessible entertainment thereby enhancing the cultural life of the
     Sunshine Coast community and developing a deeper awareness and appreciation of choral music;

  •  To provide an outlet for talented voices of the community to perform on a regular basis, striving to
     include new voices, where the members derive enjoyment and satisfaction from the challenges of
     learning, rehearsing and performing choral works;

  •  To grow and develop steadily as an organisation
     (i)    that is important to the cultural experiences of the region
    (ii)   that is a model of effective management and fiscal responsibility in the Arts.

Since its establishment in 1994 by the late Neil Atkinson the choir has given many stirring performances, won many awards and established itself as a Coast icon.

Our present Music Director is Adrian King who has a wealth of experience conducting and teaching in the English Cathedral tradition and a deep commitment to assisting community groups perform fine music.  Since his appointment in May 2007, we have given three public concerts which have been exciting for the choristers, delighted our audiences and have been well reviewed.

We have now commenced rehearsals for our next concert:

Saturday 4 October 7pm:      A Handel Oratorio: Samson
at Maroochy Baptist Church and Community Centre, Wises Rd, Maroochydore

Despite its popularity in the UK, Samson is rarely heard in Australia.  We will be performing with soloists and orchestra. We are grateful to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Arts Queensland for a Regional Arts Development Fund grant given to assist with its presentation.

Rehearsals are held each Wednesday night at 6.45pm – 9.30pm at the Lakeshore Church of Christ, North Buderim.

New Choristers are warmly welcomed. Entry to the choir is by audition after a three week trial period. The ability to read music is highly desirable.
